Manage To-Dos on Your NAS Files

GoMount Sticky Notes let you attach tasks, reminders, and follow-ups directly to files, folders, and tags. Never lose track of what needs to happen next.

What Are Sticky Notes

GoMount Sticky Notes are lightweight to-dos tied to your NAS content. Instead of keeping a separate notes app or spreadsheet, you can attach a reminder directly to a file, folder, or tag. When you return to that item, the note is right there — no context switching required.

Each note has a title, optional description, due date, and status. Notes can be linked to one or more files, one or more tags, or left as standalone tasks in a schema. They live inside GoMount and are isolated per File Hub schema, so personal and work tasks never mix.

Three Ways to Create a Note

GoMount 1.5 introduces three entry points so you can capture a task whenever it comes to mind.

1. From the Menu Bar

  1. Click the GoMount icon in the macOS menu bar.
  2. Choose Sticky Notes > New Note from the dropdown.
  3. Enter the title and optional details, pick a schema, and save.

This is the fastest way to add a standalone task without opening the main window.

2. From File Hub Right-Click

  1. Open File Hub and navigate to any file or folder.
  2. Right-click the item and choose Add Sticky Note.
  3. The file path is pre-filled as an association. Add your task and save.

Use this when you are reviewing NAS content and spot something that needs action.

3. From the Main Window Panel

  1. Open the main GoMount window and switch to the Sticky Notes tab or panel.
  2. Click New Note and fill in the details.
  3. Manually link files or tags using the association picker.

The panel gives you the fullest view: all notes, filters, due dates, and linked items in one place.

Pro tip: Use the menu bar shortcut for quick capture, right-click for file-specific tasks, and the main panel for weekly reviews.

The real power of Sticky Notes comes from bidirectional links. When you attach a note to a file or tag, you can navigate both ways:

  • From a note to its files: Open the note and click any linked file to reveal it in File Hub or Finder.
  • From a file to its notes: Select a file in File Hub and open the Notes inspector to see every task linked to it.
  • From a tag to its notes: Right-click a tag in the Tag Tree and choose Show Notes to see all follow-ups across that category.

This bidirectional linking turns isolated reminders into a project-aware task system. A note like "Review Q3 invoice with accounting" can be linked to the invoice PDF, the 2026 tag, and the Finance tag at the same time.

Schema Isolation

Sticky Notes respect the same schema boundaries as Favorites, tags, and Smart Folders. A note created under your Work schema only appears when that schema is active, keeping home and office tasks separate.

  • Free plan: 1 schema, with one set of notes.
  • Free plan + telemetry rewards: 2 schemas, each with its own notes.
  • Pro plan: 3 schemas, each with its own notes.

If you switch schemas, the Sticky Notes panel updates automatically to show only the notes in the active schema. Files and tags from other schemas are not available as associations until you switch back.

Managing Your Notes

The Sticky Notes panel is your command center. From here you can:

  • Filter: Show open, completed, overdue, or all notes.
  • Sort: Order by due date, creation date, or title.
  • Edit: Update the title, description, due date, or associations at any time.
  • Complete: Mark a note as done. Completed notes move to a collapsible archive and remain searchable.
  • Delete: Remove a note permanently. Deleting a note does not delete its linked files or tags.
  • Reopen: Restore a completed note if the task resurfaces.

Notes are stored locally in GoMount's database and sync through the same mechanism as your File Hub schema configuration.

Practical Use Cases

Sticky Notes fit naturally into NAS workflows. Here are a few ways users rely on them:

  • Post-shoot review: Attach "Cull and rate" notes to raw photo folders after importing from a camera.
  • Invoice tracking: Link "Send to client" notes to draft invoices so nothing sits unpaid.
  • Media organization: Tag uncategorized imports with "Add metadata and rename" so cleanup sessions have a clear queue.
  • Project handoffs: Leave "Pending legal review" notes on contract drafts for teammates to find.
  • Personal reminders: Pin "Renew subscription" or "Archive old backups" to relevant folders.

Tips & Shortcuts

  • Start note titles with a verb so the next action is obvious: Review, Upload, Archive, Share.
  • Combine Sticky Notes with Smart Folders to create a dynamic inbox of files that have open notes.
  • Use tags to group related notes across folders. A Urgent tag plus a Sticky Notes filter gives you a cross-folder priority list.
  • Set due dates sparingly. Notes with due dates appear in the overdue filter, which is perfect for weekly reviews.
  • Link notes to Favorites folders for projects you revisit often.
  • If a note disappears after switching schemas, check the active schema selector in File Hub.
