1Download & Install
Start by downloading the latest version of GoMount. The app requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
Once the DMG file finishes downloading, open it and drag the GoMount icon into your Applications folder. Launch GoMount from Launchpad or Spotlight.
Gatekeeper tip: Because GoMount is distributed outside the Mac App Store, macOS may show a security warning on first launch. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. GoMount is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.
On first launch, GoMount adds a small mountain icon to your menu bar. It does not open a traditional Dock window — everything is accessible from the menu bar or the settings panel.
2Add Your First NAS
Click the GoMount menu bar icon and choose Settings (or press Cmd + ,). Switch to the NAS Config tab and click the + button to add a new device.
Fill in the following fields:
- Name: A friendly label, e.g.
Home Synology. - Protocol: Choose SMB for most home NAS units (Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, etc.). Choose NFS only if your NAS runs Linux/Unix and you have explicitly enabled NFS shares.
- Address: The IP address or hostname of your NAS, e.g.
192.168.1.100orsynology.local. - Share: The exact name of the shared folder on your NAS, e.g.
homesorMedia. - Username & Password: The credentials of a NAS user that has read/write access to that share.
Click Save. GoMount stores your password securely in the macOS Keychain — it never leaves your Mac.
Not sure about the share name? On Synology DSM, open Control Panel > Shared Folder. The folder name listed there is what you should enter in GoMount.
3Set Auto-Mount Rules
Go to the Rules tab inside Settings. Here you define when GoMount should automatically connect your NAS.
You can mix and match two detection methods:
- IP Range: Enter your home network subnet, e.g.
192.168.1.0/24. GoMount mounts the NAS whenever your Mac receives an IP inside that range. - Wi-Fi SSID: Enter the exact name of your home Wi-Fi network, e.g.
MyHome_5G. This is useful if you do not want to rely on IP addresses.
If you add both conditions, GoMount treats them as an OR rule — the NAS mounts when either condition is met. This gives you maximum flexibility for home networks, VPNs, and multi-location setups.
Pro tip: Use the Wi-Fi SSID method if your NAS assigns IP addresses dynamically and the subnet changes frequently. Use the IP range method if you are on Ethernet or a fixed office network.
4Test & Verify
Close the Settings window. The easiest way to verify everything works is to disconnect and reconnect your home network:
- Turn off Wi-Fi (or unplug Ethernet) for a few seconds.
- Reconnect to your home network.
- Wait 5–10 seconds and check the GoMount menu bar icon.
A green dot means your NAS is mounted and reachable. A yellow dot means GoMount is trying to reconnect. A gray dot means you are outside your configured network and the volume has been safely unmounted.
You can also open Finder and look under Locations or /Volumes to confirm the drive appeared.
5Next Steps
Congratulations — your NAS now mounts automatically whenever you are home. Here are a few things to explore next:
- File Browser: Click Browse Files from the menu bar to open GoMount's built-in file manager. QuickLook preview and drag-and-drop transfer queue work out of the box.
- Multiple NAS devices: On the Free plan you can add one NAS. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited devices.
- Custom mount parameters: Advanced users can add extra mount flags (e.g.
nosuid,nodev) in the NAS settings. - Language: Switch the app language in General settings without restarting.
