Bookmark Your NAS Folders with GoMount Favorites

Stop drilling through folder trees. Save the directories you use most and jump to them instantly from the toolbar or File Hub sidebar.

What Are Favorites

GoMount Favorites let you bookmark frequently used folders across your NAS, cloud storage, and local volumes. Think of them as shortcuts inside the GoMount file browser and File Hub. Once a folder is starred, you can return to it in a single click instead of navigating through nested paths.

Favorites are stored locally on your Mac and are isolated by schema, so personal and work bookmarks stay neatly separated.

Adding a Favorite

You can add a folder to Favorites from anywhere in the GoMount file browser.

  1. Open the File Browser from the menu bar or the main GoMount window.
  2. Navigate to the folder you want to bookmark, for example /Volumes/NAS/Projects/2026.
  3. Click the star icon in the toolbar, or right-click the folder and choose Add to Favorites.
  4. The folder now appears in the Favorites section of the sidebar.

Pro tip: You can favorite mounted NAS folders, S3 bucket prefixes, and local directories. Only folders can be favorited, not individual files.

Managing Favorites

To rename, reorder, or remove a favorite, open the Favorites section in the sidebar:

  • Rename: Right-click a favorite and choose Edit Name. The display name changes, but the underlying path stays the same.
  • Reorder: Drag favorites up or down in the sidebar. The order is saved automatically.
  • Remove: Right-click and choose Remove from Favorites, or click the filled star icon when viewing the folder.

Removing a favorite does not delete the folder on your NAS. It only removes the shortcut from GoMount.

Schema Isolation

If you use File Hub schemas to organize files, favorites respect those boundaries. Each schema maintains its own Favorites list, so your work schema can contain project folders while your personal schema keeps family photos and media shortcuts.

When you switch schemas in the File Hub sidebar, the Favorites section updates automatically to show only the favorites assigned to the active schema.

  • Free plan: 1 schema, with one Favorites list.
  • Free plan + telemetry: 2 schemas, each with its own Favorites list.
  • Pro plan: 3 schemas, each with its own Favorites list.

Jumping to a Favorite

Favorites are designed for speed. Once saved, you can jump to a favorite in several ways:

  • Click the favorite in the File Browser sidebar.
  • Select it from the toolbar dropdown next to the path bar.
  • Open the File Hub and click a favorite under the active schema.

GoMount resolves the favorite path on demand. If the underlying volume is not mounted, GoMount will attempt to mount it first using your configured rules.

Tips & Shortcuts

  • Use favorites for folders you access multiple times per day, such as active project directories or shared team folders.
  • Combine favorites with auto-mount rules so your most-used paths are ready the moment you connect to your home network.
  • Favorites are a great companion to advanced file browser workflows like transfer queues and QuickLook previews.
  • If a favorite turns gray, the folder may have been moved or the volume may be offline. Remove it and recreate the favorite once the path is available again.
